Ensuring the safety of all homestay students while studying abroad is essential, especially since younger students may be more vulnerable than their older peers. Students with assigned custodians should arrange a curfew with them. While the college recommends setting a curfew for the student’s safety, it’s ultimately the custodian’s responsibility to establish and enforce these guidelines. The custodian will be in charge of the student’s safety and well-being.
Unlike a rental agreement or lease, homestay families can not ask you for a damage deposit or a deposit of any kind. If a homestay family is having trouble with a student making damages, please contact the homestay coordinator.
The application fee is non refundable.
The first month is considered a “trial” month and students may move out at the end of this month as long as they inform the host family and homestay coordinator within the first two weeks. Depending on availability, a new homestay family can be arranged for the student.
If students intend to move out after the trial period has passed, they must inform the homestay coordinator and give a TWO WEEKS’ NOTICE in order to move out of their homestay. A verbal or written notice must be given to the host family to avoid a penalty in homestay fees. Students can give notice at any time throughout the month.
For example; if you pay the homestay fee on Oct 1st and tell your homestay parent on Oct 15th that you will be moving at the end of the month, you have given the correct notice. Penalty example: Students can give 10 days notice and pay a penalty of 4 days, at the daily rate of $42.00 per day.
Depending on availability, a new homestay family can be arranged for the student.
