To ensure a welcoming and productive environment for all, the library maintains clear policies and procedures. These guidelines include borrowing limits, overdue fines, acceptable use of resources, and conduct expectations. We encourage all users to familiarize themselves with these policies to make the most of the library’s offerings. For details, please speak with library staff.
Active students, faculty, and staff at Coquitlam College are permitted to borrow physical library materials, including books and reserved copies. Students are required to use their Coquitlam College ID card when checking out books. Alternatively, government-issued photo ID (such as a Passport, BC ID, or BC Driver’s License) with the student number is also acceptable for checkout.
Students may borrow only fiction books and can check out a maximum of one fiction book at a time. All users are responsible for the items checked out on their library account, including ensuring the timely return of borrowed materials. It is the user’s responsibility to note and adhere to the due dates for all items checked out.
Students may renew their checked-out books for an additional 14-day period. Renewal can be done by visiting the library in person, or by contacting the librarian, Billy Augustine, via email at [email protected] or by phone at 604-939-6633 (ext. 263).
There is a 50-cent fine per day for overdue books. The maximum fine for a missing or lost book is $40 CAD.
Instructors may place certain books on reserve for their classes. These books are available for in-library use only, with a two-hour reading limit.
Books must be returned in person to the Coquitlam College library during library staff hours. Returning books directly ensures the safety of the items, allows for payment of any overdue fines, and updates the circulation records immediately. If a due date falls on a statutory holiday, books may be returned on the following day.
The student printer at Coquitlam College is currently available for black-and-white printing only. Students must use their Coquitlam College ID cards to access printing services. The cost for printing is $0.15 per printed side on 8.5 x 11-inch paper.
Students may add funds to their student ID cards through the kiosk, which accepts credit and debit cards for payment.
Having a Coquitlam College student ID card offers several benefits, including:
To obtain a Coquitlam College student ID card, students must bring a government-issued photo ID (such as a Passport, BC ID, Canadian Driver’s License, or Permanent Residency Card) to the library. Additionally, students must have an “active” student status in the student registration system.
Please note that photos of IDs on mobile phones are NOT accepted. Student ID cards are issued on a first-come, first-served basis, and students must visit the library in person to obtain their card.
For any questions about the ID card process, please contact the library via email at [email protected].
If your student ID card is lost or stolen, please report it immediately to the library. To obtain a replacement card, a $15 fee will apply. The fee can be paid at the library.
Wi-Fi is available throughout the college campus. To access the Wi-Fi, please visit the library or the Office of the Registrar to obtain the Wi-Fi password.
The Library offers volunteer opportunities for students to assist as student librarians during evening hours at the library. During regular on-site classes, the library accepts up to 8 student volunteers each semester to work shifts after 3:00 PM.
Openings for the next semester typically become available during exam season before the start of the semester. Interested students can apply by completing an online application form.
For more information, please contact Billy Augustine, the college librarian, either in person or via email at [email protected].
Instructors may place certain books on reserve for their classes. These books are available for in-library use only, with a two-hour reading limit.
We ask that students respect that the library is a place for studying and that the space be treated as such
Note: Students are advised not to leave personal belongings (especially valuables like wallets, phones, air pods, laptops etc.) unattended. The library will not be responsible if such items go missing.
