Immerse yourself in Canadian culture while living with a local family, enjoying a supportive and welcoming home environment.
Coquitlam College’s Homestay program connects international students with carefully selected Canadian families, providing a safe, comfortable home that supports both academic success and cultural connection.
Many students choose to live with a homestay family during their first few months in Vancouver to ease the transition to a new country and culture. Our Homestay Coordinator personally matches each student with a safe and comfortable home near the College, where you’ll enjoy home-cooked meals and a welcoming family atmosphere.
All homestay families are carefully screened to ensure a safe, supportive, and rewarding experience. We also offer optional airport transportation for a stress-free arrival.

Your homestay family helps you adjust to local customs, culture, and everyday life in Vancouver.
Improve your English

Comfort and convenience
You’ll have a private furnished bedroom, internet access, and shared bathroom and laundry facilities, with meals provided by your host family.
Build lasting connections
Homestay families often become lifelong friends, offering support and guidance throughout your stay.
Applications to be a homestay student can be found here. Applications can be submitted online, in-person, or by mail. Please note that we do not accept applications over the phone.
Homestay families are required to provide a private room furnished with a bed, bedding, dresser, adequate lighting, desk, chair, adequate heating, closet space or a dresser, Internet, and access to a bathroom and laundry facilities.
They are also to provide students with three meals a day (including lunch).
Please refer to Homestay Fees for updated fees.
There will be a possibility that your homestay family may have a pet. If you have an allergy, please inform the homestay coordinator ASAP.
The first month of homestay is considered a “trial” month, students may move out at the end of this month as long as they inform the host family AND homestay coordinator within the first two weeks. Depending on availability, a new host family can be arranged for the student.
Under the Ministry of Education, students who are under the age of 17 that are studying in British Columbia without a parent or legal guardian are required to have a custodian. In some cases, a custodian may also be required for students between 17 and 19 years of age (this is the age of majority in British Columbia); this decision is made at the discretion of an immigration officer.
A member of your host family may be assigned to be your custodian. Custodians are allowed to make the decisions for the student in the same way that a parent would in their home country.
Yes, homestay families must provide up to date Criminal Record Checks.
Bathrooms and other household facilities are generally shared with other household members unless otherwise arranged by the Homestay parents.
The Homestay coordinator will provide profiles with information about available families for you to review.
Your Homestay is assigned based on your application date, compatibility, and family availability.
